Following new emergency order directives issued by the state of emergency controller on the weekend, domestic travel will now open for all airports in PNG except for eight, says Air Niugini.
The eight airports are Daru, Kiunga, Wewak, Vanimo, Tabubil, Lihir, Buka and Kieta.
The airline in a statement said the four western border airports of Daru, Kiunga, Wewak and Vanimo, still required approval of SOE Controller David Manning.
“Air Niugini will continue to operate some flights to these four airports as we get approval, and will advise when these flights are occurring three or four days in advance on our Facebook page,” the airline said.
“Bookings for these four airports remain as per the normal process once they are advertised.
“Passengers travelling to or from these four airports are not required to quarantine upon arrival.
“Tabubil airport has been closed by Ok Tedi Mining Ltd, similarly Lihir airport in New Ireland has been closed by Newcrest.
“Flights to Buka and Kieta airports in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville still require approval from the Bougainville SOE controller.
“Air Niugini is operating occasional flights to Buka, based on Bougainville SOE controller approval.”
