 ELA Motors launched its new Yamaha waverunner water sports vehicle models in Port Moresby last night.

The company trialled these new models to potential clients at  Fisherman Island last month by conducting a time trail race to gauge  speed and other new features for safety and usability.

Yamaha product manager David Tsang said the three waverunners on trial – one FX super votex high output and two FX cruisers – were the new models for 2015.

“These waverunners are of the latest design and model, with the improved feature called RiDE (reverse with intuitive deceleration rlectronics) technology.

“This allows you to reverse or slow down as well as the usual forward and neutral at the tip of your fingers.”

This was the main reason for the time trails to get customers to experience this feature and compare it to older models.

In 2008, Yamaha introduced the first drive by wire throttle system with integrated features such as;

  • Cruise assist;
  • no-wake mode; and,
  • Reverse with traction control.

Then in 2009, BRP (competitor that produces Seado) introduced the iRB or intelligent brake and reverse system.

“And now in 2015, Ela Motors and Yamaha are introducing the Yamaha waverunner with the RiDE feature,” Tsang said.

Ela Motors had been selling about 30 units each year for past few years. “We currently only bring in the 1800cc (3 seaters) of different models.

“They weigh approximately 380kg and have a fuel capacity

of 70L with wet and dry storage areas.

“They can travel with speeds close to – if not more than – 100km depending on how much of a daredevil you want to be and on a flat, no wind area.”

The price range for these

new models are between K51,000 and SVHO (super votex high output) for K62,000, with a supplied trailer, cover and life vests as a package.
