Election fraud allegations exist in all countries: PM

PRIME Minister James Marape says allegations of election fraud is not only confined to PNG but all democracies including the United States of America.
He told Parliament yesterday that people should not look down on PNG as regards to the conduct of elections.
“We talk about the biggest democracy (USA) with allegations of vote rigging, corruption and voter fraud emerging,” he said.
“That shows that we cannot rubbish PNG every time something goes wrong. PNG is not the only country which faces allegations of election fraud.”
Marape was responding to National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop in Parliament who questioned why he had congratulated US president-elect Joe Biden before the courts had ruled on the allegations of vote-rigging during the Nov 3 US presidential election.
President Donald Trump is challenging Biden’s win in court.
Marape said he congratulated Biden on Sunday after talking to the US embassy officials.
“I made the congratulatory statement in collaboration with the US embassy in Port Moresby. My office was advised to make that statement,” he said.
“No one is stupid in the Prime Minister’s office.
“We are very much in cognition of our duty and we care about our work, including offering congratulatory remarks.
“I did offer a congratulatory remark. Other global leaders did offer congratulatory statements.
“If the court ruled against Biden, then we will retract and apologise.”

  • Biden lovers one question.
Is it possible that in a large non-English speaking immigrant family Pupu or Daddy filled in the postal ballot forms for his wife and other eligible voters in his extended family?
They do it in UK elections.

In this USA Presidential election if there was only around 1% fraud of those that voted it would mean a total of almost 2 million false ballot papers.

  • The timing is absolutely wrong to make such comment.
He should have waited for the current situation in USA to settle before making the comment.
What would be President-elect Joe Biden be thinking if he had chance to see this comment.
He phrases such as ‘richest black christian nation’ in the world and ‘take back PNG’ are now unlikely to be achieved as PNG sinks with more debts.
This reflects immaturity. He must be replaced during this sitting of Parliament before he does more damage to the country.
