Electoral Commission holding election review

THE Electoral Commission (EC) is currently holding its post General Election 2022 (GE22) review workshop, critically looking at voter enrolment and ways to improve the registration system.
Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai said he would like to work on preparing and implementing a plan for the local level government (LLG) elections in 2024 and if that plan was successful, then it would also be applied to GE27.
“The workshop will be focused on voter enrolment because it is the basis of any and all elections; registered common rolls,” he said.
Some of the other major challenges such as:

  • HOW the electoral roll was prepared and what was needed to be improved;
  • CIVIC awareness and improvements needed;
  • ADMINISTRATIVE changes and corporate plans; and,
  • TIME management, to name a few, would also be points of discussion at the workshop.

The findings and recommendations from the week-long workshop would then be presented to the Inter-Departmental Election Committee chairman (Ivan Pomelau) and later to the special parliamentary committee on GE22.
