MEMBERS of a clan in Mt Hagen who have been without power supply for two years now have a reason to smile after they were given a new transformer to light up their community.
The Apolgom villagers have been without power since 2020 when their transformer blew out.
This caused the villagers to suffer and also schools and other government services within Keluwa and parts of Ogulbeng to be without any power supply.
Under local MP William Duma’s rural electrification programme, a new transformer was bought and delivered to the community on Sunday.
Representative Anis Popna said it was a relief to have power come back to the village.
He said electricity was crucial for communities, especially in rural areas, as this helped in their development.
Popna said schools, health facilities, churches and businesses all benefited from having proper power supply.
He said since 2020, they had raised their concern with PNG Power Ltd and provincial authorities but nothing had been done until now.
Popna said other communities also faced similar issues and this was due to maintenance and parts for the local power supply lines.
