Electricity services are being maintained throughout the country despite threats by the PNG Energy Workers’ Association to slow down services.
PNG Power acting chief executive officer Alex Oa reassured the public that PNG Power board and management were committed to ensuring that electricity services to customers were not disrupted.
“We will do everything to resolve these union grievances,” Oa said.
“We will ensure that the issues are resolved amicably and to the benefit of all parties.”
PNGEWA executives had called on their members to slow down on electricity services on Thursday until the PNG Power Limited board and management responded to their list of grievances.
The grievances are a 5 per cent CPI payment, salary upgrading and movement for staff in Grade 14 – 10, 17.7 per cent pay-rise, outstanding structural alignment programme, PPL board and management to provide a plan  and programme of home ownership scheme/sale of PPL institutional homes and ex-gratia payments for former Papua New Guinea Electricity Commission employees.
Oa met with the employees and assured them that he has directed the enterprise consultative committee which comprises of the PNG Power Limited management and union executives to meet today to look into the union’s list of grievances.
The outcome of the enterprise consultative meeting would then be forwarded to the company’s executive management team to consider whether it would need the board’s attention.
