ROMAROM villagers watched in delight as Dulciana Somare-Brash switched on the power there on Saturday.
The village is home to more than 1000 people in ward eight of Buang local level government in Bulolo district, Morobe.
Saturday’s commissioning in the rural electrification project saw 48 houses lit up.
Somare-Brash told the Romarom villagers that light would assist children doing their school and homework.
She said there were many impact projects taking place in the country and children should get education.
“Many rural villages in the country have not seen electricity connected to their villages.
“I am happy for your member, who is an action man to bring infrastructure development into the district,” Somare-Brash said.
District development authority chief executive officer Tae Guambalek told the villagers that rural electrification did not take place this year because the general election was around the corner.
“The rural electrification programme has been in existence since 2009. We will continue to light up villages in the district. You Romarom villagers must look after the infrastructure so that it will provide electricity to you,” Guambalek said.
He said the district’s five-year plan was in line with the Government’s 2050 Vision.
