Electronic voting commendable

Letters

THE intent by the government to introduce electronic voting is a decision for the independent and sovereign state of Papua New Guinea.
The aim to improve our electoral systems is a must and is commendable.
While it may be advisable to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed system and the learnings from other democracies, our country’s context and situation is unique on its own.
While there may be some truth in the International foundation of electoral system (IFES), former country director Paul Roland’s comments, he is required to back his “canvassing” comments warning against the implementation of information technology in improving the country’s election issues.
Perhaps he may need to back this warning and provide alternatives to remedy the plague of PNG’s endless election problems.
I find the comments to be out of tune, disheartening and mischievous in that it questions the sanity, wisdom and the foresight of those tasked to improve electoral process.
More perplexing is the fact that his comments directly contradict and misrepresent the strategic outcomes of his employer IFES.
He should be held to account for his comments and might need to reveal his true representation credentials.
