THE Port Moresby Australian Football League’s (POMAFL) Easter Cup concept should be elevated to the national level, says an official.
Coach of Mamose, who are the inaugural men’s champions of the tournament, Sam Lai Ila told The National yesterday that players across the country should be invited to compete in the Cup.
He said the concept would prompt interest for the sport at the national level.
“It would be great if we could actually have players from those particular regions to come and compete in such format,” he said.
“I think it’s a great initiative by POMAFL and they did a great job in making this event successful.
“We had a few players who were actually from Mamose, but then POMAFL players from other regions joined us for the tournament.
“It was a good experience for the players. But going forward, I would really like to see the format raised to another level where players from other centres can represent their respective regions.”
Meanwhile, POMAFL president Doug Lai said he was happy with the outcome of the tournament.
He said the event was successful despite hosting the new concept for the first time.
