ELEX Lahara 600 were crowned champions after defeating the HB Lahara Tigers 10-9 in the Motu Koita West Netball Association women’s grand final at Hanuabada village in the National Capital District on Saturday.
Elex’s attack, led by centre Lulu Rex and goal shooter Crystal Richard, saw them dominate with Richard scoring three goals for a 4-3 lead in the first half.
But Tigers caught up midway in the second half with Bernadette Eure and Loa Willie leading their offence while a strong performance from Tigers goalkeeper Celestine Poh saw them draw level at 7-7.
Elex substitute Rose Sauka took charge of her side in the midcourt with Richard scoring back-to-back goals for them seal the victory at fulltime.
Elex centre and club president Lulu Rex told The National that the win was a bonus for the club with junior players taking centre stage for their clash with the Tigers.
“It’s been a big day for us since we have six of our seven teams making it to the finals, and we knew that this wasn’t going to be an easy game for us,” she said.
“The Tigers have been a very competitive side throughout this season.
“We’d like to give credit to our junior players who’ve come through and made it into our senior women’s team.
“The juniors in our side have truly been the best and we’re looking forward to seeing them try to go up further with the association’s select side for Motu Koita West.”
