LEADERS in Southern Highlands should not pass the responsibility of restoring peace and normalcy in the province onto other people, says state-of-emergency (SOE) controller Thomas Eluh
He called on Governor William Powi and other leaders to put their political differences aside and work together with him to restore peace and normalcy in the province.
Eluh said the 600,000-plus people needed decisive leadership now to stop the rampant misuse of public funds and improve governance in the province.
“I would like to call on the good governor Powi to go back to the province,” he said.
“The province needs him now and the buck stops with him.”
Eluh said it was not about passing the buck onto him or security personnel to go and fix things.
“We are all foreigners,” he said.
“He (Powi) is the governor and needs to be with his people because he knows only too well the underlying issues affecting the province.
“The province needs him right now to be on the ground in Mendi.
“He needs to bring all the factions together and put all the political differences aside.”
Eluh appealed to all clans and groups to put aside their differences and work together for the good of the province.
He said the leaders from all sides must forgive each other and forget about what had happened.
“They need to sacrifice as good leaders for the sake of the 600,000 people of the province and work with one heart and mind,” Eluh said.
