POLICE Minister Jelta Wong says with the emerging threats to peace and security, it is incumbent on leaders of the Melanesian Spearhead Group countries to advance security issues.
He opened the police ministers meeting in Kokopo, East New Britain, attended by police ministers and commissioners from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Indonesia and New Caledonia’s FLNKS.
“In the face of very increasing and emerging threats to peace and security, it is incumbent on us as leaders to advance these initiatives to full realisation and put them into operation as soon as practicable,” he said.
He said the meeting would consider the report of the police commissioners’ conference on Monday.
Wong said the report would be presented by the chairman and police commissioner of PNG Gari Baki.
“The success of our collectiveness will be determined by the successful implementation of these security initiatives to ensure we deliver tangible solutions and benefits that will contribute to the welfare of our people.”
