A WOMAN in Wewak, East Sepik, was charged with stealing money from her employer yesterday.
The suspect, who is in police custody, is alleged to have stolen K22,150 from a Chinese-owned shop in Wewak.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said the woman was a cashier when the money from the cash register that she was operating went missing.
He said the incident happened on Friday at around 3pm, according to the shop’s closed circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Supt Beli said it was believed that the woman conspired with another woman and took out the money from the cashier and gave it to the other woman.
He said the shop’s owner discovered the missing money when collecting the day’s takings from the register.
He then reported the matter to police who searched for the two women before finally arresting the suspect yesterday.
“The main suspect was arrested and brought to the police station where she was charged with stealing and was detained in the police cell.
“I am now calling on the other woman to come to the police station because it is not good for the woman to do that and go into hiding.”
He said the theft would be investigated.
In another incident in Wewak, two brothers who had allegedly been involved in a series of crimes were arrested yesterday at Kree Valley.
