Employees’ petition rejected

A PETITION by employees of the Lae urban local level government (LULLG) calling for a review of recent council resolutions has been rejected by the city Lord Mayor James Khay.
The LULLG employees claimed in the petition that since the Lae City Authority (LCA) took over LULLG’s cheque books in April, it had been planning to take over the whole operations of the LULLG.
They said in the petition that LULLG had its own bank accounts where funds should be kept for its (LULLG) use as a municipal service provider.
The petition also outlined that recent council resolutions be revoked as it was out of order and the document presented was merely an information paper from LCA and not a policy submission.
It further called for the Department of Provincial and Local Government to immediately advice both LULLG and LCA on its roles and functions to ease the current tension and confusion.
Khay, in rejecting the petition, said it was too shallow. His administration is working hard to have some of those issues addressed.
“Under my new administration, I am working to have a new management team in place to clean up the mass created by the previous administration and the resolution is addressing those issues,” he told the LULLG employees.
Khay told the employees that as soon as the new city manager took office (this week), a new management team would be appointed.
“These resolutions are made for the good of you the employees and the smooth running of the LULLG administration as a municipal service provider in the city now and into the future.”
