Enable women to be productive workers, centre director says

WOMEN should be given the opportunity to be productive employees in the workplace and be able to look after their families, according to the Centre for International Private Enterprise (Cipe).
Country director Eli Webb said women in the private sector should not have to choose between the priorities of job-security or their families.
“They should not have to choose one. They can be able to manage both,” she said.
During its launching in Port Moresby, the centre addressed challenges and provided practical solutions in catering for women in their workspaces to enhance productivity in formal employment through enforcing certain workplace policies.
She gave as an example how Brian Bell was doing a great job of catering for its female employees in terms of their needs as care givers and keeping up with their formal employment.
Brian Bell general manager human resources Philomena Nawara said 44 per cent of the staff were female and the white goods supplier provided an environment that supported women.
“Women should be persistent themselves and come to us to seek employment, because we do support women. We hire for attitude and not necessarily only for skill.
