EAST New Britain provincial administrator Akuila Tubal has applauded Governor Leo Dion on his appointment as the new deputy prime minister.
“On behalf of the people, I sincerely congratulate him for his appointment under the O’Neill government,” Tubal said.
He said it was a timely appointment and rewarding for someone who had worked tirelessly, humbly, with total dedication and commitment to his people.
Tubal said it was a sign of confidence and trust by the O’Neill government on a leader who had the capability and was a strong fighter for transparency, accountability and good governance at all levels of government and public administration.
“Dion will certainly bring a lot of maturity and credibility into the government as the DPM, something he had done for East New Britain during his term as governor,” he said.
“I should thank the people of East New Britain because, if it was not for you people, Dion would have not been re-elected and he would not be where he is now.
“It is our firm belief that Dion has got the experienced willpower and determination that can help him perform at a higher level as holder to the second highest political post in the country, some characteristics that has enabled him to be one of the outstanding governors in Papua New Guinea,” he said.
Tubal said that many people envied the province as an advanced and well-managed one.
He said the level of development was only a physical manifestation of the people’s beliefs, determinations and willingness to develop their own communities with “pride and passion”.
Tubal thanked T.H.E Party leader Don Polye for his decision to let Dion take up the post in recognition of his style of leadership.
He said that indicated the level of contribution Dion could give to nation-building as he had done for the province.
