ENB community division hails decision

THE East New Britain Division of Community Development is supporting the provincial government’s decision to close shops on Sundays and public holidays.
Division adviser Christine Masiu said this had been the wish of the ENB Council of Churches for a long time.
Masiu said the closure of shops on Sundays and public holidays was to force businesses owned by locals and foreigners to respect Sunday as a day of worship.
Masiu said public holidays should also be observed by businesses.
It is also part of the province’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic to reduce the movement of people and the risk of community transmission.
Masiu acknowledged the commitment by members of the ENB Council of Churches to the Covid-19 programmes.
