ENB eyes policy on land use and building development

THE East New Britain administration will have a policy in place to cater for land use and building development.
Provincial administrator Wilson Matava said it would help people decide on how to use their land for development purposes. He said for permanent building infrastructure development, all building plans and structures should be approved by the building board authority.
Matava said the provincial administration had taken one more step ahead to bring up this policy so it should be implemented soon.
“Most people in the province build permanent houses but most of these houses don’t have a catchment for collecting water,” Matava said. “That is why when there is continuous heavy rainfall, we experience floods and small creeks bust causing overflow.”
Matava said to avoid similar situations the province was much better for all new buildings to have approval from the building board before the actual construction.
Meanwhile, PMVs’ are taking alternative routes due to flooding as the main route from Rabaul to Kokopo has been damaged by flooding.
