EAST New Britain (ENB) has a possibility to have its first exports of white copra by the end of this year.
This was revealed by the Kokonas Indastri Korporesen’s (KIK) manager for industry capacity building, Alfred Nongkas, at the end of a coconut training programme in Kokopo recently.
According to Nongkas, ENB KIK is currently running training to wards and two local level governments (LLGs) in Kokopo.
Nongkas said the wards that would pilot the white copra production were Ramale in the Kokopo-Vunamami Urban LLG and Korai in Bitapaka LLG.
“We are working hard on these commitments and it is only a short period that the coconut industry has been here in the province, but we have gone a long way within this short period,” he said.
Nongkas said KIK was committed to providing training on coconut nursery development, field preparation, coconut downstream processing and others.
“Any community that shows an interest in coconut we will be there we will always work together with the people and the provincial government to continue to carry out trainings to the people,” he said.
