ST Joseph’s Training Centre in East New Britain graduated 51 participants with certificates in basic cooking and sewing and sustainable organic gardening after a month-long training recently.
Participant Dorothy Darius said she was privileged to learn the different ways and styles to cook and bake with different ingredients and cooking utensils.
“Let us cook with love, peace and kindness and share with our family,” she said.
Jacob Tirupia, another participant, commended the Rabaul administration for funding the training which he described as “vital life skills training”.
“We learnt a lot of new recipes, especially in the area of baking and catering, hence we can now change the diet in our family homes,” he said.
“If there be gatherings in our homes, we will now be able to do much better with the skills gained.”
The training also had facilitators demonstrating how to prepare new ingredients for food preparations to the 25 participants that took up training in basic cooking skills.
East New Britain acting provincial administrator Levi Mano said: “With the new skills, the participants can help their families and communities to prosper.
“There are a lot of law and order issues in our communities and it is my wish that you go back and change your wards with your actions.” Meanwhile, Rabaul administrator Benedict Mode said the district administration would be signing a memorandum of understanding with the training centre to pave way for key infrastructure development.
