ENB to improve infrastructures

THE East New Britain Government is working to improve major infrastructures in the province to boost its economy, says Governor Nakikus Konga.
Konga said this last week during the opening of a MoniPlus branch in Kokopo.
The province was recently granted an autonomous status with important government functions like finance and administration being decentralised to it.
Konga welcomed investors into the province and said his government was in the process of putting the right infrastructures in place to improve business activities.
“At the end of last month, we were given an autonomous status,” he said.
“It is the priority of my government to fix the roads to encourage businesses to come here.”
Konga said that before the twin volcanic eruptions in 1994, ENB’s economy was the second best in PNG.
“My government has secured K260 million to get Tokua Airport to international standard,” Konga said.
“We have secured K50 million from Malaysia to build a tourist terminal or wharf in Rabaul,” he said.
Konga said one important development priority for his government was to grow the province’s economy to make the province self-sustaining.
He added that they wanted only good and genuine investors.
