EAST New Britain will observe a public holiday from noon today and tomorrow so that civil servants can pay  respect to Kokopo MP Patrick Tammur.
Parents and school children planning to finalise  preparations for the academic year which starts on Monday, have only half a day today to do so.
Provincial administrator Akuila Tubal circulated a notice late on Tuesday advising the people of ENB to observe today and Friday as public holidays.
He said the purpose of the public holiday was to allow all the public servants to attend the funeral service of the late Kokopo MP Patrick Tammur.
Tubal said it was also important for the business community in the province to allow their staff to attend the funeral service.
It is understood that the local public holidays will start at 12pm today and the whole day tomorrow.
