ENGA is the 11th province in the country and the third in the Highlands to take on responsibilities of the Independent Consumer Competition Commission (ICCC).
The transfer of responsibilities from the ICCC to the Commerce division of the Enga administration went into effect with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
ICCC commissioner Paulus Ain said: “Through the MoU, key responsibilities of the ICCC like the monitory and compliancy work would be transferred to the provincial administration under its commerce division to act as an ICCC agent in the province.”
Ain encouraged other provincial governments to take on board the initiative to help the work of ICCC in their respective provinces.
During the MoU signing in Wabag on Tuesday, two officers were certified by Ain as the agents for the ICCC in the province .
The officers had a week long training, consultation and induction course on how to go about their responsibilities in the province by ICCC officers from the regional office in Mt Hagen.
Enga administrator Sandis Tsaka said that the ICCC arrangement would promote and encourage businesses in the province.
Tsaka added that the Enga government wanted to ensure that businesses complied to the rules and regulations that would creat employment opportunities and generate revenue for the province.
“Businesses are growing in Enga,” he said.
“And partners such as the ICCC would help in guiding our local businesses not only to contribute to the economy of the province but also to the economy of the country and to do businesses with ethical business conducts.”
