ENGA is planning to have its own university to serve the increasing number of tertiary students around the country, Governor Sir Peter Ipatas says.
Sir Peter said this during a visit by Deputy Prime Minister Davis Steven in Wabag on Sunday.
Sir Peter said that the University of Goroka’s open campus, Enga Teachers College, Enga Polytech, School of Nursing and other institutions were in the province and having a university was the next step his administration was considering.
He said his vision was to have a university to cater for the rising number of students being produced from the education system in the province as well as the Highlands.
Sir Peter said Enga Teachers College was now a modern institution upgraded with the multimillion kina infrastructural developments.
“We have to move on and not going around but look at what our children will need in future,” he said.
“This is why this plan of having the university for Enga is here and I’m only expressing it but I’m looking at making it become a reality.”
He said Enga could be a hub for education in the region and having a university would support his vision and plans in education.
