An Engan student set to do his grade 12 this year was killed in Mt Hagen in Western Highlands on New Year’s Day.
The student has been identified as Elias Julina, 19, from Kapi village in Wabag district.
Western Highlands acting police commander Tim Korado said yesterday that Julina completed grade 11 last year at Kopen Secondary School in Wabag.
He was set to do his grade 12 this year when he was stabbed to death at Koibuka village, just outside Mt Hagen city.
Korado said police were investigating Julina’s case, and another murder during Christmas, with great care.
He said police would charge four murder suspects – one allegedly involved in the killing of Julina, and two policemen and a civilian allegedly involved in the death of a church elder on Christmas night.
Korado said charges would be laid after they obtained statements from eyewitnesses.
He said police were handling them with due care to ensure the offenders faced the full force of the law.
Korado said all suspects had been refused police bail and remained locked up.
