ATTORNEY-General and Justice Minister Kerenga Kua wants to see Papua New Guinea’s bilateral and economic cooperation with Indonesia developed and enhanced to benefit both countries.

Addressing a three-day technical officials meeting between PNG and Indonesia in Port Moresby, Kua stressed the need to push PNG’s relationship at all levels with its closest neighbour.

The meeting to finalise a draft extradition treaty between PNG and Indonesia is being coordinated by the justice department with officials from other key departments.

Kua told the Indonesian delegation, led by Ambassador Andreas Sitepu, that both countries should further develop and enhance at all levels their bilateral and economic cooperation.

“We had never paid any attention in developing our relationship when, unlike other neighbours,  we share a land border.”

“Everybody else we have a sea border. But it’s with Indonesia that we have a land border and somehow we haven’t quite developed our relationship as we ought to have as two very closely connected neighbour joint at the waist.”
