A REAL estate company in Port Moresby says the National Capital District Commission’s fencing policy should be reviewed as it impinges on the rights of property owners.
Yumi Yet Real Estate Ltd managing director Eke Lama said this when some of the fencing around his properties in Gerehu and Manu were removed recently.
He said security was a concern for businesses in PNG and this needed to be taken into consideration by NCD
NCD Governor Powes Parkop said removing colorbond deck fencing around the city would improve the city’s image. Lama said his 20-plus properties in the city had colorbond fencing and replacing them would be a costly exercise.
He said NCDC’s physical planning board had never required such fencing to be removed and only recently changed the rule without considering the impact on businesses and property owners’ rights.
Parkop said he would confirm with the regulations team about the fences being removed at the Yumi Yet properties.
The governor maintained that they only required razor wire fences and others that had been erected without approval to be removed.
