THE 11th China medical team members have contributed to the development of medical and health care in Papua New Guinea, an official says.
Chinese Ambassador Feng Fanhua said this last Friday in Port Moresby during the farewelling of the 11th China medical team and the welcoming of the 12th medical team.
“The 11th team joined the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) staff in 2020 during the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
“They have worked alongside the PMGH staff to keep the pandemic at bay,” he said.
Fanhua said this year marked the 20th anniversary of China sending medical teams to PNG. “China has sent 11 teams to PNG with a total of 109 staff members and with the arrival of the 12th team, the number has increased to 117,” he said.
He said when the pandemic eased, the 11th team carried out routine clinical treatment and trained medical staff of PMGH.
Fanhua said that China, Australia and PNG have a tripartite sector in the health sector to fight against malaria in the country.
He said the 12th team comprised of 10 professionals in the medical field.
“Five are physicians, three are professors, one lecturer, one nurse-in-charge and two support staff,” he said.
