PEOPLE from the Yangoru-Saussia electorate, in East Sepik, have congratulated new member-elect Richard Maru for fulfilling his promise to be in government from day one by aligning with the People’s National Congress party and its coalition partners.
Spokesman Thompson Benguma said the district needed an overhaul and the move by Maru to join the government was a positive sign for people in the district who had been missing out on government services.
“The district now needs a new brand of politician and during his tenure as the managing director of the National Development Bank, Maru had proved his capability by resurrecting the bank from the brink of bankruptcy to what it is today,” Benguma said.
Benguma and two other candidates, who accepted defeat and pledged to work with Maru, said other candidates who lost in the elections should be considerate and allow him to transform the district just like he had done with the NDB.
They called on Peter O’Neill to realise the potential Maru had and offer him a senior ministry like Finance and Treasury or State Enterprises so that he could fulfil his vision to deliver at the national and district levels.
