Governor Allan Bird says the East Sepik government has taken full responsibility of the Kadovar Island volcano disaster relief and resetlement programme.
Bird told parliament the National Disaster management under Minister for Inter-Government Relations Kevin Isifu should be free to assist the Manam Islanders as the East Sepik government had taken full responsibility of Kadovar.
He made the statement in response to Sumkar MP Chris Yer Nangoi’s questions to Isifu on why the government was focusing only on Kadovar while the Manam Islanders had not been settled.
Nangoi called on Isifu to assist Manam Islanders to resettle.
“We received K155,000 from the gaming board, had support from the Papua New Guinean Defence Force and although the Government did promise to assist us with funding, we have yet to receive that,” Bird said
