AN eviction exercise in Madang is progressing well with the presence of police on site, according to police.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said there had been no major problems encountered during the eviction.
He said they started last Wednesday and would continue this week.
Supt Rubiang said the eviction could take two weeks or more.
He said they started off with portion 69 and would continue to portion 70 and 78.
Supt Rubiang said the police presence on site was constant and the public was using the main road in the area.
He said there had been some reports of settlers stoning vehicles and police were looking into that.
Supt Rubiang said the eviction did not take place over the weekend but would continue today at 8am.
“I want to make it clear to the settlers that they should not take advantage of the eviction and cause any problems,” he said.
“Police will not hesitate to arrest and charge those that do that.
“They are only doing their jobs as per the court’s orders.”
