RETIRED Air Niugini pilot Captain Paun Nonggor-r plans to do his bit to end corruption in the country.
He said that during the colonial administration, Australians taught PNG people how to do things right.
“(But) we are worse now. Our country is so corrupt,” he said, as he arrived home on his final flight from Brisbane. He said Air Niugini was not making money and the Government should decide whether it should sell it.
“Air Niugini is owned by the Government,” he said.
“If the Government wants Air Niugini to go straight, they have got to get the private hands in and privatise it now.
“They cannot interfere with it.
“In future, we do not want safety to be jeopardised.
“Air Niugini has been Government-owned for a long time.
“It has never been profitable since I have been there.
“I have been a manager as well. I have been in management and outside.
“I have seen it all. It is not a profitable business.”
He said high standards and safety must come first, not profit.
“The Government needs to get out of this business, otherwise they will jeopardise safety,” he said.
“I can say anything now. They can’t sack me.
“I will sack myself.
He said PNG was so corrupt and it should be stopped.
He plans to stage a protest at Ela Beach against corruption.
“I am going to do it and I want young people and all the retired people, all the Australian and New Zealanders, to come and join me,” he said.
“Our country has not been run properly. Too much corruption, too much stealing. We have to go back and do what the Australians taught us to do.”

  • Totally agree with the ex- Air Niugini Capt Nonngor-r as our beautiful country is so corrupt despite the checks and balances which are ineffective in the policing side of it.

  • That’s true, we need a leader or a Chief like him to stand up and fight for our rights and the generation to come…
Beyond 2025 and onwards people will really struggle so we must do something now or our country will sink.

  • Hello fellow Papua New Guineans reading these news from Ex Air Nuigini Pilot. Let’s all Papua New Guineans join these March against Corruption. This Country is so rich and our Politicians are greatly famous of corruption. We Papua New Guineans do nothing and we wait and pray for changes. How greedy of money and corruption would finish when Papua New Guineans do nothing or say nothing about corruption???
Fellow Papua New Guineans, what we do today will determine our youth generations’ future. If other countries protect to change corruption-why Papua New Guineans do nothing about corruption??? These should be the perfect time to act together as 1 Nation and save this Young Rich County from Corruption. GOD bless PNG.

  • Paun Nonggor has faithfully and rightfully served his profession and finally clipping his wings, welcome home and into retirement, though am no highlander.
Before you hang up the ear guards and let go the control yoke I wish to ask something.

Can you and other retired like minded ex pilots consider starting and running a pilot training school in Papua New Guinea? Why send students/candidates overseas when experience and over educated ex airline pilots and engineers are starved of opportunities here. Am sure these question is begging in other Papua New Guineans
minds but I ask first. You will find yourself hugged by every parent of children graduating from your school.
Am sure the government will support you and we parents will back you. Try !

  • Well said and stated. I wish everyone join and march for the better.LET THAT DAY BE A STOP DAY WORK……JUST FOR A GOOD CAUSE MARCH..

Can it be also organized in the other Main centers as well?

  • Congratulations Capt Nongorr.. man of few words but a great aviator. The skies will miss you.
Thankyou for your selfless service to us, PNG.
Happy retirement and may GOD reward you with long and a healthy life
    Respect

  • Thats the way forward, less we forget, australian etc teach the foundation of real development, yet we lost focus alone the way.. we can pass budgets in parliment and bring in investors, yet we wil get nothing out from all these multibillion k deals very sad, only handful of few will benefit from it.!

  • OK, Yes, thank you sir for that information. Please give us the date as to when you will be staging a protest so that we can also join in on it here in the Milne Bay Province.

I’m also one of those PNG citizens living in Milne Bay Province who seriously wants transparency dominate at all levels of society in PNG. We seriously need to eradicate this corruption virus right now!

Its killing average PNGn’s everywhere & its not healthy at all. The ICAC bill that the government have proposed is a good start for the country, thanks to Mr. Marape. If we dont move now, poverty will reign in the future.

We need to help MR. Marape to remove this corruption from PNG now. New Zealand is one of the country in the world that has zero % corruption. So why can’t we be like that?

Our MPs are good but when it comes to money, it tempts them to do bad things. Our leaders must all learn to be honest when dealing with money.
When we’ll we change because its effecting below average PNGn’s everywhere & seriously, its bad.

Yes, lets bring back the Australian & British again to help us develop PNG properly. We need Australian, British, & American teachers in the country to teach again in all the schools. Not Asians because they were never here before independence.

Finally, the South East Asians here in PNG are the kind of people who like to do white collar crime by offering large sums of money to Politicians & MPs.

We need to remove those particular South East Asians from PNG. These are the types of people who encourage financial corruption. Further more, They labor locals in almost every arm of the job sector & pay less in wages to normal PNG employees, not forgetting tax evasion & transfer of money out of PNG.

Yes, let us come together & protest against corruption for a better PNG. Please send out a message for the confirmed date via social media/news paper & lets all join hands.

    concerned citizen

    Samarai, Alotau

  • Could some kind hearted responsible authorities help assist Mr Nonggorr in conducting that march nationwide! Corruption is an existing pandemic.

  • Corruption cost over K1billion for investigation. Government is killing Png people. Let join the protest against government. I ask, could the defence and police join us in this protest against government Corruption. PM Jm must step down. He is the worsest PM in the country

  • Not quite impressed with ex-pilot’s move but I do agree in principle that we ought to say no to corruption. But that doesn’t mean when u become a politician & change what has already been institutionalized as it has now become way of life. As long as the so-called leaders & public office holders are spiritually, morally & ethically deficient we are all bound to be deprived. Any way since national election is around the corner people are already out applealling to emotions of the public in order to win their favours. Question – Why NOW ?
