Ex-soldiers to be evicted

PNG Defence Force chief of staff Captain Philip Polewara has confirmed they are evicting 80 retrenched soldiers from military barracks throughout the country.
“We are (forced to evict) these soldiers under the Lovika group as directed by the courts.
“There are many retrenched soldiers groups whose cases are now before the courts in appealing against PNGDF’s instructions to retrench them from the Force. And Lovika group is one of these groups,” Polewara said.
Eviction footage video went viral on Facebook of a retrenched soldier and the soldiers carrying out the eviction at Murray Barracks on Saturday coming close to blows.
Retrenched Sgt Dick Larry, 70, stood his ground and told the soldiers that they were not following proper procedures in carrying out the eviction exercise.
“ I’m willing to leave the barracks where I have lived for 40 years. But you have to give my entitlements first. You can’t throw me out like that,” he said.
Larry also told the soldiers that the PNGDF lawyer was misleading them.
“The court just dismissed our appeal and it is not an order to evict us.”

  • The PNGDF should start be eviting the adult children from residing in the Barracks. The Barracks is like a village no discipline no sign of any order in a discipline forces. Adult child and grandchildren running wild in the Barracks. The Barracks used to be a place that we held in awe and respect now full of mostly pot bellied undisciplined drunks.

  • Amend the housing policies, rules and regulations to avoid such happenings. it is happening everywhere in this country. In all departments.
