THE Exodus Under-14 girls’ basketball team are looking forward to having more time on the courts and improve their skills, coach Jennifer Maroroa says.
The team picked up a 15-13 win in the extra time over the Saints U14 team during the opening round of the Port Moresby Women’s Basketball League junior competition at the Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Centre on Sunday.
“We lacked defensive plays in the first half of the match because we didn’t have bench players; only five girls so they were tired but they managed to maintain that pressure,” Maroroa said.
“We were lucky, our opponents missed quite a few shots so that was to our advantage. The girls did well to come back in the end, just by picking up and putting a bit more pressure on the Saints girls and getting the rebounds, so we were able to finish it off.”
She said the team consisted of a young side with enough experience and would need all the training they could get to improve in their other matches.
“They’re a good bunch; quite strong. But we need to train more and get to work on some combinations and their fitness,” she said.
Meanwhile in other U14 fixtures, Tamaraws defeated Gerehu Wizards 6-0 while the Tamaraws boys’ team defeated Saints 12-10 in a close encounter.
