EXPECT showers and thunderstorm around the country in the coming days – except for Port Moresby, according to the National Weather Service.
“The rainfall outlook for the week indicates light to moderate rainfall over the Momase and the New Guinea Ireland regions,” assisting director, Jimmy Gomoga said in a weekly weather update.
“Temperatures will continue to rise as we are now into the wet season and the southern hemisphere summer.”
The Southern and Momase regions will experience isolated thundery showers.
The New Guinea Islands can expect scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.
The Highlands region will have isolated showers and morning fog.
“Into the summer period, rain and showers with thunderstorms will increase and become widespread across the country when the North-west monsoon will be well established over the country.
“Light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms throughout Papua New Guinea with risks of lightning strikes and landslides in the highlands. Light to moderate South East winds and moderate seas with rough patches in Western, Central, Milne Bay, West New Britain, Vitiaz Strait and Bismarck Sea posing risk to small boats.
“Moderate seas in Coral, Bismarck and Solomon Seas will pose risks to small boats.”
