Expediture report for Apec delayed

APEC Minister Justin Tkatchenko told Parliament yesterday that the full Apec report has been delayed by the Ombudsman Commission.
“We are going through a detailed process to ensure that the full report is given on the floor of parliament on the details of the Apec outcomes and also how the Apec expenditure was expended and the final amount of money that was spent,” Tkatchenko said.
“This is delayed because Moresby North West MP Sir Mekere Morauta brought to the Ombudsman Commission about the vehicles and other things that were supposedly purchased and all the rest of it.
“That’s going through the process which has now delayed me to present on the floor of parliament this particular report.
“The Ombudsman Commission had given a direction to stop all of these processes until they completed all their investigations.
“The process is going forward and we will have a report and it will completely show that the Apec event summit was an absolute success and was not K5 billion as Sir Mekere had said.
“It is 10 times less than that and we look forward to the outcomes of Apec over the years to come.”
Sir Mekere, who raised a point of order, had claimed that the total cost was about K3billion, requesting that the final report include contributions made by the foreign governments, consultants and friends.
“That’s a lie, we keep on hearing these lies and amazing figures that are totally made up.
“The facts will be put forward and will make a fool of the member of what he is saying right now,” Tkatchenko said.
