WITH reference to the article, “Students against uni plan” (The National, May 12), the restructure of the academic programme with a two-year extension to the bachelor of education programme is a burden to most of their parents when it comes to school fees. Increasing the number of years of study to five or six is a threat to many students because many of them come from low-income families. There are parents who had to dig deep into their pockets to look for the last toea to pay the K5,000 plus school fees. The university administration should think about this. Some students had to put their education on hold and support their parents to generate more income to pay for their fees. Therefore, the students are taking the right action and the administration should revert to the old academic programme.
