Exxon breathes life into YWCA office

PNG LNG Project operator ExxonMobil PNG Ltd has funded the refurbishment of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) national office in Port Moresby.
YWCA PNG executive director Diane Kambanei thanked ExxonMobil for its continued support, saying the partnership came at a time when it was making strides in social change through its programmes while initiating many new projects.
She said the work of YWCA was crucial in the development and betterment of PNG communities, especially with issues concerning women and girls.
“For 52 years, the dilapidated building that houses the national office has not had any renovations done to it and we have tried to seek funding support but to no avail,” Kambanei said.
ExxonMobil has supported YWCA since 2015 when Kambanei was accepted into its Global Women in Management training programme.
Its latest contribution was valued at K82,000.
ExxonMobil public and government affairs manager Robert Aisi said the company recognised the work YWCA was doing to empower young women in the society and was pleased to continue its support.
“We hope that the refurbished building will be a place of service and commitment to society, especially in advancing the development of women and girls in PNG,” Aisi said.
