LAST year was a “tragic and triumphant” year for ExxonMobil PNG, managing director Andrew Barry says.
He said this last Thursday during its sixth annual stakeholders’ thank you event.
Barry thanked development partners the company worked with to improve access to education, health care, elevate women’s initiatives, enhance livelihoods and protect the country’s extraordinary biodiversity.
He said the earthquake in February 2018 in Hela was the worst he had ever seen, but through the support of stakeholders and partners, they had attended to that situation.
“It had significant impact on our operations,” he said.
“We were very lucky and fortunate to have come out of that situation without serious injuries.
“The impact it had on the community around us was profound.”
Barry thanked all community partners for their support.
“Whether it was the PNG Government, Australia, New Zealand, the US and others who have stepped up to help,” he said.
“Our other partners like Salvation Army, all the churches who had stepped up to help in the time of need, and also all our partners in the project itself.
