ExxonMobil reaffirms support for Park

ExxonMobil PNG Ltd, operator of the PNG LNG project, has reaffirmed its commitment to Port Moresby Nature Park as a major partner with a financial contribution of K330,000.
This is to support the park’s schools’ education programmes, phase two of the pig–nosed turtle research programme and completion of much-bird-of-paradise precinct.
The contribution is part of ExxonMobil’s ongoing park sponsorship that commenced in 2012.
It has allowed the park to develop a structured schools excursion programme, which was uniquely designed to cater for different school grades. It complements the educational curriculum to ensure school teachers can maximise their students’ learning outcomes.
The programme is now running into its fourth year and has reached over 80,000 students.
The funding also supports the pig-nosed turtle ‘Head Start’ conservation programme, a joint initiative between the University of Canberra and Port Moresby Nature Park and the first of its kind in PNG. This programme is aimed at slowing the disappearance of pig-nosed turtles from the wildlife.
Port Moresby Nature Park’s general manager Michelle McGeorge, in thanking ExxonMobil PNG, said it had been a great supporter in enabling delivery of beneficial programmes to the community, school groups and also providing conservation outcomes.
