PREPATORY work on the venue of the Prime Minister’s XIII rugby league match between the Kumuls and Australia in Kokopo, East New Britain, is gaining momentum with an allocation of K240,000.

The match working committee will be expected to start upgrading work on Kalabond rugby league ground, the seating and change rooms for the event scheduled for Sept 9.

The working committee headed by David Carroll was allocated K240, 000.

Acting provincial administrator, Wilson Matava was pleased that the funding would go towards a permanent infrastructure that would serve the province for future sporting events.

Governor Ereman ToBaining said the province had waited five years to host an event of such magnitude and assured that they would prove they could host international matches.

He said the committee must use the funding where it was required and show that the province could continue to be an alternative venue for such an event.

The last time the province hosted such an event was before the volcanic eruptions in Rabaul.
