FACEMASKS and hand sanitisers are selling fast at a major pharmaceutical company as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
City Pharmacy Ltd managing director Mahesh Patel said there was a panic buying initially when the article in The National on Jan 29 mentioned that the students living in Wuhan city, the epicenter of the outbreak, had arrived back in Port Moresby.
“The masks and hand sanitisers sold out in no time. We had to bring in stock from our outstation branches into Port Moresby, which was also sold out.
“We always sell these mainly to hospitals and clinics but this time retail customers and corporate organisations bought them,” Patel said.
According to the World Health Organisation last Friday, stock of facemasks was running low as they were mostly made in China.
