THE Fairfax Volleyball Association is planning to introduce corporate strategies this season with plans to expand its competition.
Secretary Koavea Karulaka said they would focus on building coaching and managerial capacity and enhancing players to lift their standard this season.
The competition is heading into its third round of preseason this weekend at the Papua New Guinea Education Institute courts.
“We are on week three of our six-week preseason games. Our proper season kicks off on second week of May,” Karulaka told The National yesterday.
“There are eight clubs currently playing – Matala, Hillsides, Kalas, Ioma Block ATS, Moukele, Raukele, PX Base and Gaire.
“The aim of the 2023 season is to start corporate strategies on how best we can enhance our athletes, coaches and managers including the overall operations of our association.”
With a lot of sporting events happening this year around the country and abroad, Karulaka said the association would be concentrating on regaining its status at the national championships after losing the titles last year.
“The national championships is the pinnacle of the annual calendar. We learnt a few lessons last year on how we prepared our teams for the national championships,” he said.
“For the first time our Under-21 boys won the national titles last year which was a great achievement.
“Our open women’s team failed to retain the title having lost in the grand final last year.”
