THE Fairfax Volleyball Association begins its year with a pre-season competition this weekend at the Taurama Aquatic Centre in Port Moresby.
Competition secretary Ezekiel Vene told The National yesterday that there were eight teams who had shown interest in the men’s and women’s premier division while an Under-21 division (men/women) was scheduled for the year.
The eight teams are Raukele, Nasobe, Manta, Snipers, Freeway Hawks, Jugu, Tura and Seaside Wantoks.
Jugu, Tura and Seaside Wantoks are the new teams.
“The champions last year for both men and women were Raukele and we’re hoping the addition of the three new sides will boost our competition and make it stronger,” he said.
“One of the goals of Volleyball Fairfax is to develop some players to represent PNG.”
Vene said the registration fee for teams was K200 and due on Feb 15 while admission to the TAC was K5 for adults, K3 for students and K1 for children.
