AROUND 15 families in Nebilyer, Western Highlands, are homeless and their gardens damaged after strong wind and rain hit the village last Sunday.
Paul Koma and Stanley Jacob, from Keranum village in the Tolga Wanka council ward, Nebilyer local level government, told The National yesterday that they were hit around 5.30pm.
“(Strong) wind, like a cyclone, uprooted trees, removed roofs of homes and flattened properties,” Jacob said.
Fallen trees blocked the road from Malda to Mokapui.
The affected 15 families were sheltering with other Tolga Wanka tribesmen.
“We used to experience strong wind with rain and hailstorm in the past but this wind is new to us,” Jacob said.
