CENSORSHIP starts at home with attitudes, and families being encouraged to take ownership of new censorship policy currently undergoing consultation for finalising, the censorship office said.
It has called on families to start censoring things at home to shape the type of attitudes they wanted to see from others in society.
Office of Censorship’s executive manager-strategic policy coordination Ilikomau Ali said with the morale breakdown in society; community, families and parents must have greater input to apply censorship policy two.
“Censoring is all about doing the right thing. What you should and shouldn’t do.
“Families are key to shaping an individual’s character and attitudes. These are then reflected through manifestation in society,” he said.
“Morality and immorality starts in a family home. If a family home is not censored properly for outside ideas and influences, then the person that comes out of the family ends up being immoral and that’s why there’s a moral breakdown.”
He led a team from the Censorship office for two days Momase Regional consultation on the revised National Censorship Policy for 2019 to 2023, at Madang Resort Hotel in Madang, from Thursday and Friday.
The workshop brought stakeholders, non-government organisations, churches, women’s groups, educational institutions, and provincial government representatives from the region.
