THE relatives of a first year student who had his left wrist chopped off by Dauli Teachers College landowners are demanding compensation for his ordeal.
Student Jack Wombol, from Kar village, Poroma, Southern Highlands said students were attacked in his dormitory by the relatives of the college accountant, who were the landowners.
Wombol’s elder brother, Simon, said Jack was an innocent bystander who had nothing to do with an alleged stolen property which involved another student from Mendi.
He said as Jack was about to go to lectures, the armed tribesmen of the accountant and his son came in search of the Mendi student.
He said one of them saw Jack and hit him on the left wrist with
a long bushknife.
He was referred to the Tari hospital where he was teated.
He said relatives of the students blocked the road at Kar village and confiscated a vehicle from Tari, which also sustained damages.
However, he said the vehicle was later returned with a K10,000 compensation for the damage because they did not want to “take the law into their own hands.”
Wombol said they did not have any differences with the Dauli people and called on them to immediately compensate the student for the attack on him.
“We are claiming K3 million and 500 pigs from the Dauli villagers and we are calling on Governor Anderson Agiru and Komo-Margarima MP Francis Potape to intervene,” he said.
