A FAMILY that has built two aid posts in the two villages in Central’s Kairuku-Hiri has raised concern over the need of health workers.
Keith Iduhu, a lawyer from Gaire, said his family had built two aid posts over the past two years but there were no health workers to run the facilities.
“One aid post was built at Gaire in 2020 and another just recently in Delena, but there are no health workers stationed at these aid posts,” he said.
Iduhu said these aid posts were gazetted government facilities but were not operating to provide basic health services needed by the people.
He said the aid posts were supplied with medicines.
Central health authority chief executive officer Dr James Amini said there were advertisements put out in December and they were organising for the selections from the director’s position down to health workers.
“The process can be long,” he added.
Amini said they were aware of the situation at the Gaire aid post and were working to address it.
“We are aware that there is a need for a health worker to be stationed at the Gaire aid post and will work on it,” he said.
“Unfortunately, for the Delena facility, we were not aware of it until it was published in the media.”
Amini said that it was important that appropriate health authorities were made aware of such developments so they could arrange staffing.
Meanwhile, Amini confirmed that he had been invited to the opening of the Delena aid post two weeks ago, but up till that time, he had not been aware of its existence.
