A GROUP of farmers in Menyamya, Morobe is satisfied with the price they are getting for their coffee, and suggest that the Government process more for export.
Hamtai Coffee Cooperative Group chairman Dan Anas said they had 2,112 coffee farmers as members who wanted to directly export their produce.
“We are doing great and we want the district, provincial and national governments to stand with us as we want to directly export our coffee,” Anas said.
He said 730 farmers gathered and packed 278 bags and we sold them at a record K15.50 a kilogramme.
Anas said they planned to build their own coffee mill.
“From 2022 to 2027, we aim to export our coffee directly overseas with the help of the government,” he said.
They also welcome the creation of a Ministry of Coffee.
“We believe that the Minister will be looking at processing our coffee here and exporting it overseas,” he said.
Anas said the members had been trained to produce quality coffee.
