REMOTE coffee growers from Kukuya village in ward 5 of Sialum local level government in Tewai-Siassi, Morobe, for the first time supplied a combined 214 bags of coffee to a local cooperative for export.
The three coffee groups, Meluwe, Loke and Yumi Coffee groups, are made up of more than 20 coffee growers each.
The groups have supplied 23 tonnes of coffee to Fairtrade certified Unen Choit Cooperative for further processing and export, something they said was new and exciting for them.
Grower Mathias Wosae said the farmers used to help each other carry coffee from the village to Sialum station, a three to five hours walk.
